Slow
Food
Slow
Food was founded in 1989 to protect the pleasures
of the table from the homogenization of modern fast food
and fast life.
Slow Food's initiatives promote
gastronomic culture, develop taste education, conserve
agricultural biodiversity, and protect traditional foods
at risk of disappearance.
Today
the movement has grown to encompass:
A worldwide association of over 80,000 members.
A publishing
house that produces guides, recipe books, and
the magazine 'Slow: the International Herald of Taste';
Major events
to promote artisan high-quality foods from around the
world. The most important event is the Salone del Gusto,
which draws over 130,000 participants. The fifth edition
of the Salone del Gusto will be held from October 21 to
25, 2004 in Turin;
The Slow
Food Foundation for Biodiversity , which organizes
and funds projects to defend our world’s heritage
of agricultural biodiversity and gastronomic traditions,
such as the Presidia, the Ark of Taste and the Slow Food
Award for the Defense of Biodiversity.
The University
of Gastronomic Sciences , which trains the
next generation of food and agriculture specialists.
